I was fortunate enough to grow up on what was more-or-less a farm on the Mornington Peninsula, VIC, Australia.
I’ve written stories and been inspired by the home I grew up in before. We had a big balcony over-looking paddocks and bush land that our property backed onto.
Whenever I think back to that house I remember the view over the paddocks, covered in long swaying grass at sunset. I always think of the saying ‘Red sky at night, shepherds delight’ meaning that the day ahead would be nice weather. The dried grass through summer would glow a bright orange color on these nights.
That image in my mind has always been great motivation for me to work harder, I miss that place.
Our property backed onto ‘Oliver’s Creek Bush Land Reserve’. I spent a lot of time their as a kid mucking around at the creek, building forts to protect my brothers and I from what I now realize were imaginary monsters that we had created.
This is ‘Oliver’s Creek’ in respect for the beautiful home we grew up in.
