About Mitch...
Mitch Gobel is an Australian artist. He was born in 1990 on the Mornington Peninsula, Melbourne, and currently resides with his family in the Northern Rivers area of NSW, Australia.
Best known for his 10+ years spent creating with resin, Mitch's work has evolved into various mixed media, and since 2022, his practice has focused on a combination of acrylic and oil painting. Despite the significant shift in medium, the essence of Gobel's original style is felt in his new approach to art.
Inspired primarily by nature, Gobel tells his stories using the subtle, often overlooked complexities of colour through abstract art.
As a vehicle for expression, Mitch's work explores the delicate intricacies we find in the natural world. Illustrating the contrasting complexities of life and death through work blended and layered, often to a point where the beginning and end are intertwined beyond recognition, as is life.
The phrase 'art can save you' has anchored Gobel's attention to the idea that through challenge and transformation, there is a pathway to some level of peace within the confines of art. This simple motto has inspired the continuation and evolution of his practice for more than a decade.
'I've always been drawn to the simplicity of colour. As my practice has matured, so has my understanding and appreciation for the power that something seemingly as simple as colour can evoke intense and powerful emotions.
Reflecting on the peace and sense of wonder that I've always found when immersed in nature, I am attempting to recreate a similar feeling for the viewer through my interpretation of those emotions as art.
Being self-taught has gifted me a real sense of freedom in my practice. Furthermore, my attraction to abstraction has influenced and encouraged few limitations on how and what I paint.'
Mitch has established connections with like-minded artists, art collectors, and commercial clients worldwide. His work is currently displayed in private collections in 60 different countries. The majority of his audience is based in Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
