'Art can save you' - an alluring idea that has kept me returning to the studio for over a decade.
When I deconstruct, and reverse engineer my creation process, at the source is a need and opportunity for peace. Art has always been, for lack of a better term, an escape for me. It's a space where I get to be unapologetically myself, without judgement, and free from the mundane in life. It's a space where I feel free.
I painted this piece during a time when I felt like I needed an escape, as if I was in an internal storm. I'm sure it's easy for some of you to relate, so I don't want to be too specific about what I was going through in the hope that you're able to connect to the art in a way that is authentic for you. Ultimately, I wanted something to take my mind away from everything else.
This piece reminds me that the only fundamental constant in life is change. With time, challenging situations improve, and eventually, we grow and hopefully heal.
