Over Mountains, Through Rivers

Life update: The past year…

I started painting this piece before we sold our home in the rainforest last year. The sale happened quickly. We settled and moved out within three weeks. The day we left was probably the saddest day of my life; I cried for basically the entire day, and a few days after. It's not a decision I regret for many reasons, but I loved that land, and it was hard to leave. Eventually, I stopped crying, and then we jumped on a plane to Europe 🚀 Tuscany, Switzerland, the French Alps, the south of France and the Greek islands.

On a beach in Milos, we enjoyed some of the best seafood I've ever eaten at a fancy table with laid-back service, on the sand, with the waves softly lapping near our feet as we watched the sunset. It was the best food experience of my life. We stayed on that beach for five days. Each night we went back to the same place for dinner and did it all again 🎣 Drank a little bit of wine in Europe….... Played with heaps of stray cats, got a hire car bogged in a remote swamp, and tried to catch a few fish, but I swear they've all been eaten there 🤷🏼‍♂️

We found our way to Bali a couple of months later. We stayed mostly in Ubud, and we bought a traditional Balinese Joglo there ✨ I built a lovely garden around it, and we decided to put in a saltwater pool and a bunch of other things. We're currently waiting for those renovations to be finished, then you might be able to find it on air b'n'b 🚀 Zu started going to his first play-group. I loved driving him there on the scooter each morning ❤️ Sal and I had lots of sex while he was at school 🎯 Finally made it back to Australia four months later; it's beautiful here, I love the space, nature and how clean it is, but fuck the system tries to make it hard at times… still can't believe how much time I spend cooking and cleaning and collecting food. Over and over again.

We had another miscarriage on the road trip from Melbourne up the east coast to our new home. Those were difficult days, but we got through them… Our new home needed some love, so I spent a few months renovating and doing the Christmas things, bought Sal a surprise horse for Christmas (nailed it 🔥), started a flower garden, and built a kitchen. We nearly lost Jala recently to a tumour which was miraculously removed after four other vets refused to operate. She's healed well, and I count our blessings every day for that ✨ (shout-out to the Bellingen Vets - you fucking legends ❤️). Full circle, about a month ago I finally set up my new studio and found my way back to this artwork. I'm still exploring and feeling into this new style, but I consider the work as a cosmic map of our travels, around the world and through life. A year of huge highs and low, lows. Must be time to start a new piece ✨
