It’s taken a while for this piece to make sense. The name came through super strong as I was painting it, but it didn’t feel aligned to my practice at the time or our life situation, so it’s been hung in the studio for the past year, and now it makes sense.
‘Phoenix’ is the last resin piece I created, and I’m no longer working with resin. I didn’t know it then, but the artwork felt special. I remember taking it in after pouring it and feeling a deep sense of fulfilment like I had just finished the best book I’d ever read.
Personally, this past year has felt like a massive purge for me. Letting go of what I thought I knew, calling in transformation, surrendering to the unknown and loving the outcomes. Observing the strange sense of security that non-attachment brings, handing yourself over to the universe and trusting that, whatever happens, will be the best thing for myself, my family and the art…
I love that everyone sees my work differently, but for me, this piece represents the death of my ten years spent working with resin and the birth of a new chapter for my work ✨
A huge part of me has always wanted to keep this artwork, but now, even more so, I want/ need to dive into the exploration of a new style of art. For that reason alone, I am ready for the piece to go to its true home. All the proceeds from the sale will allow me to jump into the deep end with my new practice in terms of expenses. I haven’t made any money for the last year, I’m broke AF 💩 and I want to buy a bunch of top-quality canvases and materials #thatshitaintcheap 🤌🏼
I can’t thank you, Sal 🦁🌸❤️ enough for supporting us through my time away from the studio, and I owe this new inspiration for my work to you for being such a strong, beautiful, and inspiring woman in family life, purpose, and love.
