Before Sal and I met or even knew of each other, we were both artists - with wildly similar styles. Once we started dating, we painted together and, in doing so, created far more than what we produced physically, and we fell insanely in love. For years afterwards, art was something we did together - a love we shared and experienced as one.

Since becoming parents, we have spent more time together than ever, but the time we used to have together, just us, has been dramatically compressed. It’s probably the most challenging aspect of being a parent for me - detaching from that sense of who we were for each other before parenthood. But I also see this as an amazing gift. Now, when we have time alone (very rarely), we make the most of it, and it doesn’t take much for Sal and I to fall straight back into the groove we were in all those years ago.

Recently we shared a day or so alone together, while our son was with family. We started painting this piece! Enjoyed a romantic dinner out, swam in the river and watched a good movie. We connected and experienced each other just like we used to, without interruption. This piece, for me, has been a beautiful reminder of my incredible love and admiration for Sal. It reminded me of our intense obsession with each other, where nothing else mattered and time seemed to either stand still or vanish. It’s shown me that those feelings are still there; our life together is just a little bit busier now… and baby number 2 is due in the coming weeks...

So now we make the most of the fleeting moments we have together; we appreciate how amazing it is to create OUR VERY OWN FAMILY. We remember who we are for each other, where we’ve come from, everything we’ve been through, and we recognise that although our lives have changed, our love stays true.
