This is one of the few artworks that I’ve created to tell a story, rather than creating the artwork and then giving it one, as I usually do.

And it’s a love story.

A few months ago I was at home, I’d finished ‘work’ for the day and decided to do something for me. So I lit up some incense, got my beanbags out, cushions, a blanket and laid them on the floor of my bungalow. I’ve got this crazy laser mounted on the wall, which casts a water-like effect over most of my room, it slowly rotates and changes colour. So I turned it on, turned the rest of the lights off. Turned the music up and let Spotify decide what to play.

I must have laid there watching the light filter through the incense smoke and the tropical plants in my space for about half an hour, and then it happened.

Randomly a song came on that I had never heard before. I didn’t realize at the time but it was by one of my favorite bands. It sounded like a mix between Imogen Heap and Bon Iver.

My mind had been wondering but the second it came on, it had my full attention. The melody slowly trickled through the intro just like the light through the smoke. Then the bass came in - Long, heavy, smooth vibrations that carried through the wooden floor and up the walls.

It was honestly like I had been paralyzed, as if time stopped. There was nothing else in my life at that moment other than the music. It created for me what the term ‘living in the moment’ really means. In that moment there were no bills to pay, no voice in the back of my head, no judgment, no ambition. Everything was pretty - it was so beautiful. It blew my mind like nothing before ever had and I fell in love with it.

The song was called Midnight, by Coldplay and I cannot thank them enough for creating this un-reviled beauty in sound and time.

Now whenever I need an escape, to switch off. I turn off the lights, listen to this song and hear a pretty little voice telling me to ‘live in the moment’ - @sallymustang

This is my happy place - This is ‘Midnight’.
